Domestic Fowl
Page 1 (Chicken - Turkey)
|
Domestic Fowl is a term for certain birds often used as food by humans. It includes some poultry such as chickens or turkeys, and waterfowl such as ducks or geese. These birds are bred in captivity for their flesh or eggs. Domestic Fowl also may include ornamental birds. In Asia, chickens with beautiful or unusual plumage have long been kept for ornamental purposes. Certain varieties were imported into the United States and Great Britain in the late 1800s. Poultry fanciers began keeping these ornamental birds for exhibition, a practice that continues today.
